Kandhamal: One outlawed CPI(Maoist) member was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Kamberikia forest under Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Saturday on Saturday evening.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off that some Maoists were camping in the Kamberikia forest, Khandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra formed a joint team of DVF jawans and the police to raid their hideout. When the jawans approached the hideout, the Maoists began firing randomly. One Maoist member was kicked in the retaliatory fire by the forces.
Meanwhile, a DVF jawan also sustained bullet injuries on his left hand. Taking advantage of darkness, the remaining Maoists managed to flee the area.
The injured DVF jawan was rushed to the Baliguda Hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
The jawans have recovered the dead Maoist and seized a rifle and other incriminating documents from the spot. Combing operation by security jawans was still underway till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Police IG (Southern Range) Jay Narayan Pankaj told the media on Sunday that the deceased Maoist has been identified as the Maoist KKBN division chief and DVCM (divisional committee member) Dasru alias Dudu Mundari.
According the Pankaj, Dasaru’s death in police firing yesterday is a severe blow to the Maoist organization in the region. “Dasaru was involved in the murder of 10 people and has about 22 criminal cases in Kandhamal and Boudh districts to his name.
