Bhadrak: As many as 10 persons sustained injuries as a fire broke out at a fireworks depot near Haladiha Bypass on Chandbali Road in Bhadrak district on Tuesday.
As per reports, the blast left five persons critically hurt, who are currently undergoing treatment at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. Among the seriously injured are 4 women and 1 minor, with many in a critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion occurred while fireworks were being manufactured at the depot, reducing the firecracker manufacturing unit to rubble. The depot was destroyed in the blast. The fire from the explosion spread in the whole unit within minutes.
Upon being informed, firefighters rushed to the scene to control the blaze. Locals helped transport the injured to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the minor who had sustained severe burns has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident, said sources.
