Bhubaneswar: Ten new varieties of paddy crops developed by the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (ICAR-NRRI) and the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) were presented for approval at the Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary of Krushi Bibhag, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, reviewed various rice crops and approved 10 new varieties of rice seeds. These new varieties of rice crops are expected to contribute significantly to the state’s rice production and improve the income of farmers, said Padhee.
The sub-committee reviewed eight varieties of rice developed by the ICAR-NRRI, namely CR Dhan 326, CR Dhan 327, CR Dhan 328, CR Dhan 603, CR Dhan 704, CR Dhan 805, CR Dhan 806, and CR Dhan 911. In addition, OUAT’s Kalinga Rice 2 and Kalinga Rice 8 were also approved during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by various officials including the Vice Chancellor of OUAT, Pravat Kumar Roul; Director of Agriculture and Food Production, Prem Chandra Chaudhary; senior officers of the department and agricultural scientists of OUAT and ICAR-NRRI.
