Baripada: As many as 10 children were injured as the school van they were travelling in overturned at Bhanra Chhak under Karanjia police station in Mayurbhanj district, on Wednesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the van was carrying students from Chitrpashi to Karanjia when its driver lost control and overturned. Residents rushed to the spot and rescued the children.
However, it has been revealed that the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to the Vivekananda Public School.
While locals rescued the injured children to a nearby hospital for treatment, the driver of the van fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Karanjia police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the driver of the van.
