Jagatsingpur: A 10-yr-old girl was rescued by a team of police and District Child Welfare Officer Manorama Sahoo from Mangarajpur village under Kujang police station in Jagatsingpur district late on Thursday night.

She was allegedly married off to a 23-yr-old differently abled man the previous day.

Acting on a tip-off, the SDPO tipped off the District Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) who again informed the District Child Welfare Officer Manorama Sahoo. She went with a team of police and rescued the girl.

Kujanga IIC Dilip Sahu said, “As per her Aadhar Card, she is 10 years of age, but her mother claims her to be 15-yr-old. In any way, she is a minor. will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee. The further course of action will be decided after that”

“The girl was married off to the youth in a temple by exchanging garlands. The CWC will decide what should be done further. Till then, the girl will be kept in Jagatsinghpur Sishu Ashram,” informed Manorama Sahoo, CWO."
