Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has reiterated the mandatory requirement for all shops and commercial establishments across the state to display signboards in the Odia script. Labour & Employees State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia informed the state assembly on Tuesday that cases have been filed against 100 establishments for non-compliance with the rule.
Responding to a question from senior Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Minister Singhkhuntia stated that the use of the Odia script on signboards is compulsory for all commercial entities.
During the current financial year 2025-26, the government conducted inspections of 2,852 establishments statewide to ensure adherence to the rule. The inspections revealed that 1,606 establishments were not displaying the Odia script on their signboards. Consequently, show-cause notices were issued to these establishments, and legal action has commenced against 100 offenders under the Establishments Act.
