Bhubaneswar: More than 6,000 employees of 108 ambulance service have threatened to launch a cease work agitation across Odisha from November 1. They will stage protests after parking the 1,300 ambulances operated by them on the National Highways in the state, the ambulance employees said.
The ambulance employees are protesting against the protesting against the private agency’s decision of not to employ 200 employees.
According to the 108 ambulance employees union, EMRI Green Health Services (formerly known as GVK EMRI) got the tender to manage the emergency services across the state from September 22. Though it hired 6,000 employees of the emergency services, the company is reluctant to hire their 200 leaders. The employees had reportedly selected their leaders in each district of the state to fight for their rights and raise voice against the discriminations towards them.
The ambulance employees’ association members will meet the District Magistrates and the District Chief Medical Officers in the 30 districts of the state on Monday and submit their memorandum.
Sriram Chandra Acharya, state secretary of the Ambulance Employees’ Association, said that Green Health Service has already contracted 6,000 employees, but has intentionally not re-employed 200 employees.
