Bhubaneswar: The state government has planned to set up 11 new old age homes in various districts, Minister of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Nityananda Gond, informed the State Assembly.
Gond’s reply came in response to a question raised by MLA Padma Lochan Panda.
Minister informed the House that there are currently 142 old age homes in the state, with 88 receiving central government funding, 6 receiving state government funding, and 5 receiving district mineral fund support.
The government provides annual maintenance grants of Rs 15.31 lakh to 25-bed old age homes. The Minister highlighted plans to open new old age homes in Puri, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Sambalpur districts this year, with 5 new 50-bed homes approved. Grants have also been recommended for 6 new homes in Angul, Bargarh, Malkangiri, and Sundargarh districts. However, the proposal to build one old age home in each block is not currently under consideration.
