Bhawanipatna: In an incident that shows how addictive mobile gaming adversely affects a young mind, a Class 5 student allegedly hanged himself after his mother chided him for spending too much of time playing games on a mobile phone. The shocking incident occurred last night in Malapada village under Kesinga police limits of Kalahandi district.
The 11-year-old was stuck at home due to lockdown and spent most of his time playing games on the mobile phone. His mother did not approve of this and used to rebuke him for the same, informed the deceased’s grandfather.
Last evening, she reportedly scolded his severely and asked his stay away from the phone. Late night, he hanged himself in his room.
As soon as his family found out, they rushed him to Kesinga DHH where the doctor declared him ‘brought dead’.
The body was handed over to the parents after conducting the post-mortem examination. Police have registered an unnatural death report and an investigation is underway.
