Bhubaneswar: A total of 1176 skilled and semiskilled migrant returnees to Odisha have benefited under the COVID-19 Assistance Package (CAP) provided by the State Government, informed Labour Minister Susanta Singh on Tuesday.
In reply to a question of BJP MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi, the Minister said that a total of 10,07,330 migrants have returned to Odisha from March 2020 to October 2020.
The Odia migrants returning to the State have been provided employment under various schemes.
A total of 7.73 lakh workers have been provided employment under the MGNREGA from April 2020 to December 2020 producing 15.57 crore person-days of work.
Till August 2020, a total of 1,68,571 members of 16,507 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have received Rs 5000 each under a special loan scheme.
Migrant returnees at quarantine centres have been provided with Rs 2000 each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund after the end of their stay. Rs 134.62 crores have been distributed to 6,73,079 migrants till August 2020.
To help the urban poor hit by job loss due to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced a Rs 100 crore Urban Wage Employment Initiative (UWEI).
Among various other employment opportunities, 1176 skilled and semiskilled migrant returnees have been provided with loans amounting to Rs 908.27 lakh under the COVID-19 Assistance Package (CAP).
