Bhubaneswar: National Convenor of Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) Akshaya Kumar on Friday announced to join today’s 12PM-3PM nation-wide ‘chakka jaam’ (blockading of roads as a form of protest) call given by Sanyukta Kishan Morcha demanding repeal of the contentious farm laws.
“In response to the call given by Sanyukta Kishan Morcha for a nation-wide ‘chakka jaam’ NKS will observe the same in 22-23 districts of Odisha. Other farmer organisations will also observe the same. I firmly believe that tomorrow ‘Chakka jaam’ from 12 noon to 3 PM will be a grand success in Odisha,” said Kumar addressing reporters here on Friday.
The NKS national convenor stated that the purpose of the ‘chakka jaam’ was to send a message to the Central Government that the farmers are united and the movement is going to get stronger in the future.
“We support Sanyukta Kisan Morcha’s demand for repeal of the three black laws and passing of a law guaranteeing minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce,” Kumar stated.
He said that NKS workers will protest peacefully on the principles of ahimsa-non-violence.
Farmers mainly from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws– Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
