Bhadrak: A pickup van carrying 17 cattle overturned near Gelatua under Bhadrak Rural Police Station in Bhadrak district, resulting in the death of 12 cattle.
According to reports, the vehicle, which was transporting the cattle illegally from Agarpada, was allegedly chased by cow vigilantes, leading to the accident. The driver and helper of the vehicle fled the scene, while the cattle were rescued. Of the 17 cattle on board, 12 died in the accident. The vehicle was set on fire and was engulfed in flames. However, two fire tenders arrived to control the blaze.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and tensions ran high in the area due to the death of the cattle.
The incident has sparked outrage, with locals alleging that cattle smuggling is rampant in the district.
Meanwhile, police have assured that they will take action to prevent such incidents in the future.
