Dhenkanal: A 12-hour Dhenkanal bandh is being observed today in protest of the poor condition of National Highway 55. The shutdown is being observed by the Joint Action Committee, led by the Dhenkanal Bar Association. It is being supported by various organizations and institutions.
Four laning work of National Highway 55 began in 2017 and the aim was to complete it by 2020. But the contractor has stopped working on the four-lane road, disrupting commuters. As a result, it has become impossible to travel on National Highway 55.
Various organizations and political parties have been protesting for the road. After a series of protests and talks, the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India promised to complete the two-lane road by June 15. However, instead of getting the job done, the road has gotten worse.
