Berhampur: Twelve Samiti Members were allegedly locked up in a hotel ahead of the Chatrapur Block Chairman election in Ganjam district.
They alleged that police had locked them at the Panthanivas in Barakul since last night and had also seized their mobile phones.
They had appealed for their rescue and also threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the hotel building if they are not rescued.
All of them were finally released by the police today morning.
Chatrapur SDPO Gautam Kisan said the police had arrived at the hotel for their security ahead of the election. We were unable to clarify it to them during the night. No one was detained, they were free to go.
The Block Chairman election that was scheduled to be held on March 12 had been rescheduled to today after some Samiti Members had tested Covid positive.
