Bhubaneswar: A 12-year-old girl died after unknowingly consuming rice laced with rat poison, on Tuesday. The incident took place at Riung village under Biramitrapur police limits in Rourkela.
The deceased has been identified as Kiran Riun.
According to reports, Kiran, a Class V student after returning from school ate rice laced with rat poison, which was meant to kill rodents. Shortly after consuming the rice, Kiran became critically ill and was rushed to the Rourkela Government Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Kuaramunda police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. The family has been handed over the body after the necessary formalities.
Notably, this is not the first tragedy to strike the family. A few months ago, Kiran’s older sibling had died after being bitten by a poisonous snake while sleeping at home.
