Bhubaneswar: Licenses have been granted to 129 contractors for employing 7,273 migrant labourers in other states under the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979, revealed Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Minister of Labour and Employees’ State Insurance.
Minister’s reply came in response to a query raised by MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick.
According to the Minister, to resolve the problems of migrant labourers in distress in the last 18 months, a task force has been formed under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Minister and three meetings of the task force have been completed.
Besides, the Minister also informed that in the last two years (2025 and up to 2026), 225 inspections were conducted by the labour officers, and 16 cases have been filed against various contractors.
To empower the livelihood of migrant labourers, steps are being taken on a priority basis to include them in the welfare and self-employment schemes operating in various departments in coordination with different departments.
