Balasore: A rogue jackal attacked and injured 13 people, including nine women, in the Kamarda police station area of Balasore district on Sunday morning.
Three of the injured were seriously hurt and have been admitted to the Jaleswar Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
The victims included 11 people from Kashia village and two from Demuria village. An elderly man recounted his ordeal, stating that he was attacked by the jackal while on his way to a nearby pond in the morning. The animal bit him twice, but he managed to resist the attack and escaped.
A woman from Kashia village, Kajal Mohanty also shared her experience, saying that the jackal attacked her while she was plucking flowers. She attempted to chase the animal away with a stick to escape. Mohanty reported that around 11 people from her village faced similar attacks.
The rogue jackal has terrorised the village. Villagers have attempted to capture the animal. The forest department has also been informed to assist in capturing the jackal.
