Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday informed the Odisha Assembly that 15 cases of self-immolation involving women and girls have been registered across the state over the past 15 months.
Replying in writing to a question raised by BJD MLA from Kakatpur, Tusharkanti Behera, the Chief Minister said the incidents were reported between June 2024 and August 2025.
Majhi’s response was limited to the number of such cases registered during the period. Specific details regarding the victims or the current status of these cases were not furnished in the reply.
The revelation highlights a deeply concerning trend, as self-immolation continues to claim the lives of women and girls in the state, raising questions over underlying social and economic distress factors.
