Jagatsinghpur: Childline officials with the assistance of Jagatsinghpur Sadar police conducted a raid at Pokapur village and rescued a 15-day-old boy who was allegedly sold for Rs 10,000 in Charchika bazaar under the same police limits today.
Police have detained one person in this connection.
According to reports, a man of Charchika bazaar had allegedly sold his 15-day-old son to one Kangali Mallick of Pokapur village for Rs 10,000 today.
Following a complaint by the infant’s grandma, Childline officials and Sadar police swung into action and rescued the infant from Pokapur village. The police have detained Kangali Mallick who had allegedly bought the infant by paying Rs 10,000 to its father.
The mother of the infant had allegedly deserted her home following a family dispute. Unable to take care of the infant, its father sold it to poultry trader Kangali Mallick for Rs 10,000. The infant’s father is absconding with the money after paying a paltry sum of Rs 1000 to the 15-day-old’s grandmother.
