Rayagada: As many as 15 bonded labourers, including seven women, from Odisha’s Bolangir district were rescued from Peddapalli district of Telangana late last night.
Reports stated that labourers were allegedly being tortured physically by the owner of a brick kiln, where they were working. The owner had also not paid their wages duly over the last three months. The labourers managed to contact a social worker and eventually an organization by the name of International Human Rights Commission came to know about the matter. They teamed up with the local labour department and raided the brick kiln to rescue the labourers.
Immediately after rescuing the 15 labourers, they were sent back to their home State. The labourers reached Rayagada last night where all arrangements for their boarding and lodging had been made. They will depart for their homes today, said sources.
