Bhubaneswar: In the past five years, total 16,207 persons were tested HIV positive in Odisha. The number of patients has dropped from 3,357 in 2014-15 to 3,209 in 2018-19, Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das said today.
Addressing a question raised in the Assembly today over status of HIV positive patients, Das said that the number of HIV +ve patients has reduced from 0.7 percent to 0.3 percent in the past five years.
The State Government through several agencies such as the OSACS, NACO and H&FW Department has managed to raise awareness and check the rise in number of HIV +ve patients, he said.
The screening procudures and quantum has also witnessed a significant improvement during the same period. In 2014-15 4.83 lakh person were screened while the number rose to 12.12 lakh in 2018-19, the statistics shared by Das revealed.
A number campaigns in Government hospitals have facilitated a successful AIDS control programme across the State. Besides, the involvement of electronics, print and web media has also given a boost to the awareness programmes, the Minister added.
“Red ribbon clubs have been setup in 640 colleges. This apart, 48 voluntary organisations have been involved in the Targeted Intervention project to be a part of the overall AIDS control programme,” said Das.
