Balangir: Balangir police as part of its drive against organized crime on Monday busted a cough syrup racket with the arrest of 18 persons.
Police have seized 1,719 bottles of cough syrup, two cars and motorcycles from their possession.
“For the last few weeks, we have been continuing with our relentless drive against organized crime like cough syrup trafficking. During the period we had seized cough syrup in small quantities. On the basis of the information gathered from them, we formed a team led by the SDPO with IIC Puintala, IIC Sadar in it. With the help of Cyber Police, we tracked the source. We came to know that it was being supplied to them by a supplier from Cuttack. We were following them and in the meantime have seized 1719 bottles of cough syrup, two big vehicles, motorcycles and have apprehended a total of 18 persons,” informed Balangir SP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo briefing reporters here today.
