Bhubaneswar: A total of 178 prisoners have died in Odisha’s prisons over the past three years, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a query by BJP MLA from Udala, Bhaskar Madhei, the Chief Minister stated that each incident of death has been investigated by a judicial magistrate, ensuring transparency in the process.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that Odisha has 85 prisons, including the Biju Patnaik Mukta Akasa Ashram in Jamujhari and the Naribandi Niketan in Sambalpur.
All sleeping rooms in these prisons have been equipped with CCTV cameras since 2008 for enhanced security measures. This system is aimed at improving surveillance and ensuring the safety of inmates.
