Bhubaneswar: In view of the upcoming New Year celebrations, the Commissionerate Police has announced that 18 platoons of police personnel will be deployed across the twin cities (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of festivities.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh said that all PCR units and local police stations would remain on high alert. Specific arrangements have been made, including 18 naka points, 29 watch teams, four queue management teams, and dedicated security at five major tourist spots. The measures are aimed at maintaining traffic discipline, preventing congestion, and ensuring overall public safety.
“People are encouraged to enjoy the celebrations while following the rules and regulations,” Commissioner Singh said. “Event organisers, hoteliers, and the public have been provided with guidelines, which will be strictly enforced. Events are scheduled to operate until midnight, with an additional 30-minute clearance period granted by the Excise Department to allow safe dispersal.”
The police have also issued safety advisories for citizens: the public is urged to avoid drinking and driving; hoteliers must ensure structural and fire safety, keep exits clear, and manage crowds effectively; women are advised to avoid secluded areas to prevent harassment or extortion.
The Commissioner added that all emergency numbers, including 112, will remain functional, and police teams are prepared to respond to any incidents during the celebrations.
