Bhubaneswar: As many as 180 platoons of police personnel and over 1000 officers of various ranks would be deployed in and around Puri for the Rath Yatra scheduled on July 1, informed DGP Sunil Bansal on Monday.
The festival was held last year without devotees but lakhs of devotees are likely to visit Puri this year due to the drop in Covid-19 cases. Therefore, the police forces have been mobilized from across the State.
Following the motto of service and security, Police personnel will be sensitized to ensure that darshan of the deities is a smooth affair for devotees, said the DGP.
He said that as the Temple of Lord Jagannath, Puri is classified as a Category – A temple, posing a threat of terrorist attack, anti-sabotage, and metal detector checks are being carried out near the temple and chariots.
People visiting Puri in their vehicles have been asked to follow traffic regulations. Police personnel would monitor the movement of people through CCTV cameras installed at several strategic points.
