Bhubaneswar: A total of 1,829 teaching posts remain vacant across all Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas (OAVs), School & Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond informed the state assembly on Friday.
In a written reply to a question by Simulia MLA Padma Lochan Panda, the minister said the recruitment process is currently underway. Meanwhile, to ensure that students’ learning is not disrupted, 1,170 guest teachers have been appointed across the schools.
Highlighting the achievements of OAV students, Minister Gond said that over the past three years, 62 students passing Class XII were deemed eligible for higher studies in the same year, including five students qualifying for IIT and 31 for NIT, bringing recognition to Odisha’s education system.
Focusing on Balasore district, the minister noted that the district has 12 blocks, each hosting one Adarsh Vidyalaya. The first admissions for Class VI and VII in Remuna block took place in the 2018–19 academic year. The first batch of Class XII students from Remuna appeared for their exams in 2024–25. That year, one student secured admission for engineering at NIT Rourkela, and another qualified for medical studies at MKCG, Brahmapur.
Schools in Nilgiri and Oupada were established in 2019–20, while the remaining nine blocks of Balasore saw schools established in 2022–23. Currently, all schools in the district offer classes up to Class IX.
