Bhubaneswar: Nuapada-based Sachin Behera won accolades for the State by registering a record in the Guinness Book of World Records in knee strikes.
19-year-old Sachin set the record back in March 2019 and shared with OMMCOM NEWS his happiness at being able to make Odisha proud. He said, “I set the world record by striking an object 137 times with two knees in a minute. The previous record was held by Jayant Reddy, who had managed 115 knee strikes.”
He said, “I am an athlete and a 100 m sprinter. I usually practise for 10-12 hours every day. The knee strikes were a part of my sprinting practice and later decided to use my speed to break the record.
He profusely thanked two-time Guinness Record holder Dr Satyapira Padhan who guided him in the entire journey. Behera also thanked Principal of Hi-Tech College, Dr Premananda Oja, who organised the event.
Being the first from Nuapada district to hold a Guinness world record, he said, “In future, I wish to break the national record and become the fastest male of India. Further I would like to bring gold for India in Olympics and other international events.”
