2 Arrested For Murdering Elderly Woman

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 78-year-old woman and the injury of her 52-year-old daughter during a failed robbery attempt at Tigiria village under Balichandrapur police station in Jajpur district on Friday night.

The accused have been identified as Manguli Das (32) and Bikash Das (33), both residents of Khadagapur village in Jajpur district.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the two assailants attempted to rob the house of the deceased, Kausalya Pati, in Tigiria village.

According to reports, the robbers entered the house by scaling the wall and tried to loot valuables. When the mother and daughter resisted, one of the accused struck Kausalya Pati on the head with a shovel. She died on the spot, while her daughter, Mamata Pati, sustained injuries.

Hearing their cries for help, locals rushed to the house, prompting the robbers to flee the scene.

Upon being informed, police arrived at the village to investigate. Subsequently, Balichandrapur police arrested both accused persons.

“During our investigation, we arrested both the accused,” said Samarjit Nayak, Inspector-in-Charge of Balichandrapur police station.
