Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday arrested two men for illegal possession of firearms and live ammunition from a car on the Burla-Sambalpur road under Ainthapali police station in Sambalpur district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Raju Pradhan (30) of Pithapotal in Bargarh district and Santanu Suhura (36) of Silipathar in Sambalpur district. A case has been registered against them under PS Case No. 376/25, dated 17.11.2025, Sections 25(1-AA)/35 of the Arms Act, 1959.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Firoj Ekka intercepted the vehicle on Sunday evening. During the search, officers recovered two country-made pistols, two magazines, seven rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition, and two mobile phones. Police said the weapons were procured from Bihar about a year ago.
“We have seized illegal weapons and ammunition from the accused, who could not produce any valid documentation. We are investigating whether these arms were intended for use in criminal activities,” said Sambalpur SP Mukesh Bhamoo while briefing the media.
He added, “We are also tracing the Bihar-based supplier believed to have sold the firearms. All angles of the case will be thoroughly investigated.”
The police are continuing their probe to determine whether the weapons were linked to any ongoing criminal networks in the region.
