Nabarangpur: In a major breakthrough, Nabarangpur police have arrested two individuals in connection with a robbery that took place on the evening of January 13, during which Rs 14 lakh in cash and gold were stolen from businessman Saroj Kumar Mohanty in Nabarangpur town.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Chinmay Kumar Sahoo (37), a resident of Baisinga village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district and Sriman Kumar Ghadei (39), a resident of Keuta Sahi in Nabarangpur town.
Speaking on the matter, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mihir Kumar Panda explained that after learning about the incident, the police immediately formed a special investigation team (SIT).
The team, led by Additional SP Aditya Sen, along with SDPO Nabarangpur, IIC Nabarangpur and a special squad, worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend the suspects.
“We faced some challenges due to the lack of any previous criminal records of the accused, but our team worked rigorously to crack the case,” said ACP Mihir Kumar Panda. “Through diligent investigation and coordination, we were able to track down the accused.”
The investigation revealed that one of the accused, Sriman Kumar Ghadei, had visited the victim’s house several times, under the guise of being a neighbor. The victim, Saroj Kumar Mohanty, a local businessman, was targeted by the suspects who carefully planned the robbery. After committing the crime, the accused divided the looted amount, with each taking Rs 7 lakh.
As part of the investigation, the police have recovered a total of Rs 11.23 lakh, along with three mobile phones and gold items. The mobile phones were used during the crime, and a knife used in the robbery was also seized.
“We have recovered most of the stolen items and are continuing to work on further leads,” ACP Panda added.
The two accused were arrested and will be produced in court for further proceedings. The police have assured that the investigation will continue to ensure all involved parties are brought to justice.
