Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics, Bhubaneswar police on Monday arrested two persons and seized 19 grams of brown sugar from Sai Nagar under Jatni police station in Bhubaneswar.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena, the accused were apprehended during a routine operation. A total of 19 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession.
The arrested have been identified as Sudhir Nayak alias Chabi, a native of Balagoda village in Khordha district, currently residing in BJB Nagar, Bhubaneswar; and Subash Patnaik, originally from Baideswar police limits in Cuttack district and presently living in Jagamara area under Khandagiri police station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both persons have a history of criminal activity. Patnaik has a case registered against him at the Mahila police station, while Nayak is allegedly involved in five separate criminal cases.
“Several brown sugar-related cases have been registered in recent times. So far, multiple arrests have been made and around 1.5 kilograms of the contraband have been seized. Many of the accused are linked to interstate drug networks. Our drive against illegal narcotics will continue with full force,” said DCP Meena while briefing the media.
The police have intensified surveillance and are continuing their efforts to dismantle the supply chain of narcotics in the city.
