2 Die, 14 Hurt As Overloaded Auto-Rickshaw Tips Over In Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: As many as two persons died and 14 were injured when an auto-rickshaw overturned on Bhetnai-Bhejiput Road under Kotinada police station in Ganjam district, on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Gayatri Gouda (25) and Sarojini Sahu (50), both residents of Bhetnai village.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims were among a group of over 20 villagers who had gone to Sanakholi village to attend a religious ceremony. On their way back after witnessing the religious event, the vehicle they were travelling in overturned as it was overloaded.

The injured were rushed to the Aska hospital. Seven of them were later referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as their condition worsened. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, police reached the accident site promptly and rescued the people trapped under the overturned auto. Besides, police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
