2 Held For Impersonating Police

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested in Kendrapara on Wednesday for allegedly impersonating police personnel and robbing Rs 1 lakh from two businessmen in Ganjam district.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Digapahandi area when the accused intercepted the victims, who were travelling to Berhampur by motorcycle to pay a wholesale dealer.

According to reports, the businessmen, residents of R. Udayagiri in Gajapati district, were allegedly stopped by the duo, who posed as policemen and demanded Rs 3,200 as a fine for “reckless driving.”

When the victims refused to pay, the accused lowered the demand to Rs 1,000 and threatened legal action. Following an argument, the imposters snatched a bag containing the cash and fled the scene.

The businessmen attempted to chase the culprits but were unsuccessful and later lodged a complaint at the local police station.

“Our team immediately swung into action and arrested the looters from Kendrapara,” said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.

Police recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones from the accused.
