Rourkela: Rourkela police have arrested two inter-state criminals following an exchange of fire between them and the police today.
One of the accused identified as Biswajit Sahu of Gumla in Jharkhand has sustained bullet injuries on his leg. The other accused has been identified as Sahu’s associate Tuchu Enduar.
Police have seized one AK-47 rifle, one 9 mm pistol, bullets, one car and a bike from their possession. DIG (Western Range Niti Sekhar and Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo are investigating the case.
While the police have admitted the injured criminal to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), they are interrogating the arrested criminal.
According to the police, while the two inter-state criminals were travelling in a car through Chandiposh police station limits in the forenoon today, they were stopped by the police. The criminals fired at the police, forcing the latter to fire in retaliation. In the process, a bullet fired by the police hit one criminal on his leg leaving him injured.
A preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the accused were planning a major crime in the city.
