Bhubaneswar: Chauliaganj police in Cuttack city on Tuesday arrested two inter-state drug traffickers and seized 257 gm of brown sugar from their possession. The estimated value of the seized contraband is around Rs 26 lakh.
Police have also seized Rs 2 lakh in cash and an SUV from the possession of the accused persons.
The accused have been identified as Iswar Mahara and Budhu Ray. Both are natives of Murshidabad in neighbouring West Bengal.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused persons had procured brown sugar from Murshidabad and were on their way to Khordha. On the way, they had sold some quantity of brown sugar at Bhadrak.
Acting on a tip-off, Chauliaganj police and Special Squad intercepted them near Kaliaboda during blocking and checking of vehicles.
“They had procured the brown sugar from Murshidabad. On the way, they had sold some quantity of it for Rs 2 lakh. We have also seized the cash. Further investigation into the matter is underway. If needed we will get them on remand for further interrogation,” informed Additional DCP Anil Mishra.
