2 Inter-State Robbery Kingpins Arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police arrested two inter-state robbers on Tuesday in connection with the ATM robbery that occurred on January 24 at Sriram Nagar under Lingaraj Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Haq alias Rustam (36), who was apprehended in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and Sheikh Mijanur Rehman Mulla alias Raju (45), who was arrested in West Bengal.

With these arrests, the total number of people arrested in the case has reached eight.

“Six persons were arrested earlier and sent to court. Now, we have arrested two more interstate criminals in connection with the ATM robbery,” said Commissioner of Police (CP) Suresh Dev Datta Singh at a press conference on Tuesday.

He further stated that during the investigation, police seized Rs 38,000 in cash and mobile phones from the suspects.

On March 1, the police made a breakthrough in the case with the arrest of six persons from Vedavyas, Rourkela, after reviewing CCTV footage. Police seized a vehicle, Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, and other evidence from them.

The gang had stolen an ATM machine from a nationalized bank in Sriram Nagar on January 24. They transported it to a riverbank in a stolen auto-rickshaw and used a gas cutter to break into the machine. The robbers stole Rs 21.77 lakh in cash and the cost of the ATM machine was around Rs 1.70 lakh.
