Baripada: Two persons were killed and another two were injured in two separate incidents of lightning strikes today while they were working in the field in Mayurbhanj district.
The tragic incidents took place at Nuagan village in Pratappur panchayat under Badasahi police limits and at Kusumbandh village under Bangriposi police limits.
According to reports, lightning struck 50-year-old Prasant Bindhani of Nuagan village while he was working in farmland near his village in the afternoon today. Bindhani collapsed in the field following a lightning strike. Local people immediately rushed him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Badasahi. However, he was declared dead by the attending doctors at the CHC.
On being informed Badasahi police after registering a case of unnatural death seized the body and sent it to PRM Medical College & Hospital at Baripada for conduct of autopsy.
Similarly, a 45-year-old man Bablu Behera of Kusumbandh village under Bangriposi police limits along with another man and a woman were working in the field when lightning struck them.
They were immediately rushed to the CHC at Bangriposi. While Behera was declared dead by the attending doctors at the CHC, the other man and woman are undergoing treatment.
