Kendrapada: At least two people were killed and three others sustained critical injuries after being hit by a fish-laden pick-up van near Duhuria on Cuttack-Chandbali road under Kendrapada Sadar police station limits on early Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Dibyajyoti Das of Banahara village and Somanath Sahoo of Badagaon. Locals rushed the injured to a local hospital and were later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
According to reports, the victims were returning from Balia ‘melana’ on their way to participate in Duhuria ‘melana’ when the speeding pick-up van from Cuttack hit the Dola Biman they were carrying in the wee hours of Sunday. It is suspected that the mishap occurred due to fog that considerably reduced visibility.
On being informed, the local police reached the spot and seized the vehicle. The cops detained the driver of the pick-up van.
