Sundargarh: In a tragic incident, two persons were killed and five grievously injured after an SUV transporting six officials and employees of the company crashed into a dumper at the Garjanbahal coal mine of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) under Hemgiri police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday morning.
The dead as well as the injured have been rescued and sent to Jindal Hospital in the Raigarh district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh. The condition of the injured is said to be critical.
According to PV Reddy, General Manager, Garjanbahal coal mine, the accident occurred when the employees were changing shifts. The two officials and four employees of the mines were entering the work site at 7.00 am today for the shift change when the SUV they were travelling by crashed head-on against a coal-laden dumper. “Two passengers of the SUV died on the spot while four other employees and the driver of the hired vehicle sustained serious injuries,” Reddy said.
