Puri: Two persons were killed and 10 others injured after a pick-up van loaded with betel leaf overturned at Kakatpur under Jagannathpur police limits in Odisha’s Puri district on Friday morning.
According to reports, the accident occurred when more than 20 betel leaf vendors from the Astharang area of Puri district were going to Nayahat and Pipili betel leaf markets to sell their produce. The driver of the speeding pick-up van lost control of the wheels and the vehicle overturned on the main road near Jagannathpur Street under Kakatpur police limits.
Two people died on the spot, while more than 10 vendors were injured. Of them, eight who sustained critical injuries have been shifted to a healthcare facility in Bhubaneswar.
On being informed, the Kakatpur police team reached the spot, rescued the injured, and sent them to the medical centers.
