Bhubaneswar: Development being the pivotal plank averred to be adopted by BJD supremo-cum-Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and scores of pro-people schemes being implemented across the State, two such latest schemes, “Ama Gaon Ama Bikash” and its most recent sub-scheme “PEETHA”, are deemed to be the game changer in the 2019 general elections (both Lok Sabha and Assembly polls).

Both these schemes have been churned out by the incumbent BJD Government to directly and instantly benefit the beneficiaries at the grassroots level who are the de facto vote bank and have been playing a decisive role in scripting the consecutively four-time victories for Naveen Patnaik.

While ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikash’ has now already covered over 250 blocks of Odisha since its launch on March 5 (Panchayati Raj Divas-cum-Biju Babu’s Birth Anniversary) this year, this flagship programme of Odisha Government is being believed to be popular among the rural populace as the Chief Minister directly interacts with the people through video conferencing from State Secretariat and sanctions money on the spot after approving their respective local projects then are there.

Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced ‘PEETHA’, a sub-scheme of ‘Ama Gaon Ama Bikash’. This programme will be held at all Gram Panchayats across Odisha from 15-20 of every month starting from December 2018 till March 2019 prior to the general elections.

Speaking to OMMCOM NEWS, senior journalist and political analyst Dilip Bisoi opined, “Ama Gaon Ama Bikash is a scheme that is now showing electrifying effect in the rural areas. The reason is about its implementation as it is more important than the scheme. When the villagers are proposing for a road in their locality and the State Government is instantly approving and sanctioning funds, also the road work is being started and completed within a fortnight or a month, the implementation of the scheme is influencing the people.”

“It is undoubtedly going to help a lot the ruling party in the election,” he remarked.

On the other hand, another senior journalist and political expert Prabhu Kalyan Mohapatra viewed, “Time will prove how these schemes or PEETHA will be game changer. It is also to be seen how far it is going to alleviate poverty.”

“The big question now arises about the timing of its announcement and implementation. As election is round the corner, successful implementation may get hampered due to imposition of model code of conduct. Reason, election dates are going to be announced in the next one or two months. After that, no developmental works can be carried on. Keeping that in view, it is to be adjudged if these two schemes could be game changer or not,” commented the senior scribe.
