05 October 2019

Kendrapada: An early Saturday encounter by special squad under Kenderapada Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) ended in two wanted criminals, Bhelu and Mituna, getting injured and then arrested, Police officials informed.

The Police had received a tip-off that Ananta Prasad Jena alias Bhelu and Pravat Nayak alias Mituna would be present near Angula Dei on National Highway 6 (A) under Marshaghai Police limits, they said.

Kendrapada SDPO Rajib Lochan Panda quickly acted on the information and formed a special squad which covered all points of exit. At about 2 am they attempted to nab the criminals but they opened fire at the Police, a senior official said.

Police returned fire in self-defence in which the two accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs. They were first taken to Marshaghai Hospital and then transferred to Kendrapada Hospital, Police officers said.

Bhelu and Mituna had more than 10 cases lodged against them in several police stations, Kendrapada Police said.
