Baripada:  More than 20 persons were injured in a horrific road accident on National Highway 49 near Chadeibhol under Karanjia police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Monday after a speeding truck collided with a bus, causing it to overturn.

The bus traveling from Bolani to Karanjia, was hit by a speeding truck on the Karanjia bypass road around midday. The violent impact forced the bus off the road, flipping it onto its side and triggering panic among passengers. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as locals rushed to rescue trapped victims from the mangled vehicle.

At least four passengers suffered critical head and chest injuries and were immediately shifted to a better-equipped hospital for emergency treatment. The remaining injured passengers are receiving care at Karanjia Sub-Divisional Hospital, where district officials personally monitored medical arrangements.

Karanjia police swiftly secured the accident site and launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Meanwhile, locals demanded for construction of an over bridge at Chadeibhol, a stretch notorious for frequent accidents due to poor road design and reckless driving.

This marks the third major accident on this dangerous curve within the past year alone.
