Sundargarh: Scrub typhus cases continue to increase alarmingly in Odisha’s Sundargarh district as 20 more people were affected by this vector-borne disease in a single day on Tuesday. The authorities tested 93 blood samples on Tuesday and 20 of them turned out to be positive for scrub typhus.
This has taken the total number of scrub typhus cases in Sundargarh to 328. So far, one person has succumbed to the disease in the district, while another has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Earlier, scrub typhus claimed one more life in Bargarh on Sunday taking the death toll in the district to 7. Amid a rise in scrub typhus cases in the state, a 4-member central team visited Bargarh district and took stock of the situation. The committee also discussed the cause and the diagnosis of scrub typhus with the district health department.
Meanwhile, Sundargarh CDMO said that various measures are being taken to bring the situation under control. Massive awareness drives have been launched to sensitise people about the disease and how it can be kept at bay. The CDMO also advised people not to panic and to seek medical advice immediately if symptoms are seen in anyone.
