Bhubaneswar: As many as 20 sluice gates of Hirakud dam reservoir were opened till Friday evening as rains continued to lash the upper catchment areas of Mahanadi river.
Till 6 pm today evening, the inflow at Hirakud was 3.93 lakh cusec of water while 3.40 lakh cusec water is being released.
The flood water will reach Mundali barrage in Cuttack in another 36 hours. However, this will not result in any form of major flood, the dam authorities said.
As per information, 615.92 feet is 50% of the reservoir capacity. The authorities will maintain water level of 616.40 feet by Saturday. Therefore, the water level will be around 50-55% of the reservoir capacity.
Meanwhile, Sambalpur Collector Ananya Das has advised people in the downstream not to venture into Mahanadi river, keeping in mind the outflow of water at Hirakud reservoir.
