Bhubaneswar: Odisha has 74,224 Anganwadi centres, of which 54,074 have their own buildings and are operational. However, 20,150 centres lack their own premises, with 7,389 currently under construction, stated Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during the third day of the Odisha Assembly session.
Parida’s reply came in response to a question by BJD MLA Aswini Kumar Patra.
The government has allocated ₹39.86 crore for the construction of Anganwadi centre buildings and is working with various departments to expedite the process. The Women and Child Development Department is also monitoring the construction work through the AWSOME APP.
Additionally, 10,416 mini-centres have been merged with main centres to optimise resources and streamline operations.
However, the Deputy Chief Minister assured the Assembly that all centres will eventually have their own premises, with Panchayati Raj institutions facilitating land acquisition where required.
