Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force on Wednesday apprehended two drug peddlers belonging to Rajasthan and seized 202 grams of cocaine from their possession. The duo was identified as Ravi Singh and Sunny Kumar of Naurangpura under Hamirvas police limits in Churu district of Rajasthan.
This is first case of seizure of Cocaine in Odisha. On the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by STF near Xavier Crossing in Bhubaneswar against illegal possession of Narcotic Drugs and apprehended two interstate drug peddlers. They were staying here at Tareni Nagar, Saliasahi in Bhubaneswar. They have been booked under Sections 21(c)/29 of NDPS Act 1985 and remanded in judicial custody.
“Prime accused Ravi used to sell cocaine in different areas of Delhi, procuring from a bigger cocaine trafficker of Delhi. He belongs to Rajasthan and his relatives are in Punjab also. He owns a hotel in his native place in Rajasthan. He was in travel business in Delhi since Commonwealth Games time and during this time he got the idea of selling cocaine in rich areas. He speaks fluent English and has contacts with many foreigners too,” a senior official of the STF said.
He contacted Sunny to expand cocaine business in rich areas of Bhubaneswar. Unlike Cannabis (Ganja/ Marijuana/weeds) and Heroin/ brown sugar (prepared from opium) Cocaine is not produced in India. Cocaine is produced from Coca plant which is a native to South America. It is mainly produced in Latin American countries like Colombia, Peru & Bolivia and consumed mainly in USA and Europe, the official said, adding that a thorough probe is on.
