Bhubaneswar: As the official tenure of the 17th Lok Sabha is set to expire in June 2024, the General Elections to elect the members of the 18th Lok Sabha are expected to take place in the upcoming months of April and May. In this context, a purported official notification from the Election Commission of India (ECI) displaying the dates of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections is widely circulating on social media platforms.
A photo has gone viral on the internet which claims that it shows the newly released schedule for Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
Going by the fake notification, polling for Lok Sabha seats will begin on April 19 while counting will be held on May 22.
So far, no official notification from the Election Commission of India or any reports from mainstream media about the release of the 2024 Lok Sabha election schedule has been issued.
Terming the photo displaying the election date as fake, ECI took to twitter and wrote: “A fake message is being shared on Whats app regarding schedule for #LokSabhaElections2024. #FactCheck: The message is #Fake. No dates have been announced so far by #ECI.”
The ECI urged the public to not to forward “false” WhatsApp messages.
Election Schedule is announced by the Commission through a press conference.
While the final date has yet to be confirmed, it is most likely that the elections will take place sometime in April over several phases and continue till May.
In 2019, Lok Sabha polls were announced on March 10 and were held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19.
