Bhubaneswar: In the fight against drug trafficking, Keonjhar Police made a significant breakthrough by arresting 21 persons involved in brown sugar smuggling.
The operation, led by the Special Squad under Anandpur SDPO, resulted in the seizure of 213 grams of brown sugar, Rs 8.3 lakh in cash, and 13 mobile phones.
According to Additional SP Pratyush Mahapatra, the police acted on credible intelligence and conducted a raid at Hatapada under Ghashipura Police Station limits. The crackdown was part of a larger effort to curb the rising drug menace in the Anandapur subdivision.
“On special inputs, a raid was carried out near Salapada, Hatapada under Ghasipura PS jurisdiction, leading to the apprehension of three accused persons in possession of 212.10 grams of brown sugar, stated a release issued by Keonjhar SP.
Multiple police teams launched coordinated raids across Ghasipura, Anandpur, Nandipada, and Ramachandrapur police station areas.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the narcotics were being sourced from the Bhadrak region and distributed extensively in the Anandapur area. The police will intensify efforts to dismantle the remaining network
