22 Astadhatu Idols Stolen From Khurda Daksheswara Temple

Khurda: Unidentified miscreants have allegedly stolen 22 idols made of sacred astadhatu (eight metals) from the famous Daksheswara Temple under Banapur Police Station (PS) limits in the district here.

As per the complaint lodged with Banapur police, the precious and age-old idols have been stolen from the sanctum sanctorum of the famous Hindu shrine located at Banapur.

The lock of the main entrance of Daksheswara Temple has been found broken by the thieves.
Banapur police have initiated investigation into the case.

The Astadhatu is deemed to be very pious by the Hindus as it is an alloy of gold, silver, copper, lead, tin, zinc, iron and antimony metals.
